Some Home Owners Still Don't Check the Contractors License
It is extremely important to be sure all contractors are properly licensed and insured including workers comp and liability.
This work will require a permit from your City, and this type of foundation work is engineered, so licensed engineers must be involved. As a home owner, you may not be aware of the process. Please educate yourself about the permits your City may require, and be sure your contractor is licensed, insured and following the law.
We heard of one home owner who didn't check with the City, and the foundation underpinning and stabilization contractor had the job well under way before even applying for a permit.
You can easily check the status of a Contractors License Status by going to the Contractors State License Board and entering their name or license number. You may also check to see if any complaints have been filed against a Contractor.
Remember, if an accident or injury occurs, as the home owner you could have a very unpleasant surprise if the foundation contractor you hire is not licensed or properly insured.
